There is so much to do at Deering Estate for everyone, from butterfly walks to guided canoe tours, to exploring the history of the area in buildings and fossils, to enjoying some of the special concerts and festivals that take place there. The estate is an archeological, environmental and historical preserve that is part of the Miami-Dade county Parks Department. There is a pine rockland habitat, which is one of the largest areas of this type of ecosytem in the country. It is a protected nature conservancy where many rare and local plants thrive



In addition to its nature conservancy, Deering is a cultural center offering an artist in residence program on the grounds for visual, literary and performing artists. The area is a beautiful indoor and outdoor venue that puts on special activities throughout the year like their living artist concert series and festival of the arts as well as Youth Arts Day and Music Fest. 



Daily guided tours are offered by the staff of the historic buildings and grounds. You can learn about the history of the buildings and see many of the rare and native plants that are protected here. You can take a self-guided tour and enjoy the beautiful coastline and nature preserve at your own pace as well. 



Eco-Adventure guided canoe trips are available to Chicken Key, a mangrove island and restored bird rookery. Chicken Key is about mile offshore in Biscayne Bay and offers mangrove forests and sanddunes as well as tidal flats to explore. 



In addition to day trip adventures the estate also has youth camps and field trips offering hands-on exploration of the ecology, geology, marine biology, history and art found in this natural setting. The adults don't get left out, there are nature and cultural programs offered for them too.
