Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science
The Miami Museum of Science and Planetarium was one of the first museums in Miami, founded in 1949. It has now become the Patricia and Philip Frost Museum of Science. This one of a kind museum is located in Miami Dade county and will be located (after summer 2016) at the newly created Museum Park on the Bay in downtown Miami. This $275 million-dollar project will include state of the art interactive science exhibits, an outdoor Energy Playground, human body exhibit, the Gulf Stream Aquarium with sea lab, the Weintraub Observatory, the Falcon Batchelor Bird of Prey Center with over 1000 animals, and a a high-tech digital Planetarium. The Planetarium will host daily star shows and laser light shows monthly. The Museum is famous for its travelling exhibitions that it produced and created and that have travelled nationwide such as Amazon Voyage: Vicious Fishes and Other Riches. The amount of family fun that is available at this museum is more than you can probably handle in one trip and the best part is that it is not only fun, but also educational. Over 60,000 students each year travel to the museum to learn!
While here the entire family can indulge in many exploratory hours of inclusive fun and education that cuts across all ages from the galleries, to the exhibits right down to the movies that are tailor made to tickle the inquisitive minds of young adults. Visitors can pick up a schedule of the museum's demonstrations at the entrance which have included (in the past) a chance to turn yourself into a human yoyo in the Museum’s outdoor garden where you are launched 10 feet into the air!
From games, to Greek mythology and all about our galaxy, you can be guaranteed that you will find it all here and you will also be able to find a little something for everyone. Although you could probably spend the better part of the day at the museum, be sure to check out other nearby attractions like the Bayside Marketplace, the Miami Children's Museum, downtown Miami and much more! There are also a variety of beaches like Surfside Beach that are in proximity to the Museum as well as national parks. This makes the Museum a great centralized attraction to start your Miami touring experience with a bang!
