Veteran's Park
Veteran's Park in east Delray Beach is located adjacent to the Intracoastal drawbridge on Atlantic Avenue. Parking is located to the north and to the west of the park. Wakodahatchee Wetlands
Palm Beach County Water Utilities Department manages the Wakodahatchee Wetlands as a water reclamation area. Local highly treated waste water is pumped into the wetlands to be filtered by native vegetation and soil. The water is then reclaimed for irrigational use. The entire boardwalk is less than 1 mile long so it is very manageable for families. The wetlands are home to alligators, ibis, great blue heron, limpkin, purple gallinule, marsh rabbits, racoons, all sorts of turtles and iguana.
Aqua Crest Pool
This public pool in northeast Delray Beach is located off Seacrest Blvd south of Woolbright. It is a 50 meter pool with a diving well. Two diving boards are available at different heights. The pool is heated and there is a non-heated infant pool. Inside the pool area is a small playground for younger children. The facility can be rented for private events and plays host to Swim competitions. Call the pool to learn about lessons and other programs.
West Delray Regional Park
Take Atlantic Avenue all the way west past State Road 441 and you will find a dirt road before you and pass a USPS office. West Delray Regional Park is a huge park with over 300 acres, 38 lake acres, that is a local hot spot for RC enthusiasts and fans. There are mountain bike and equestrian trails as well as walking paths. Restrooms are located on premises but are only portable toilets. There are primitive group camping sites and places to engage in Archery and freshwater fishing.
Governor Lawton Chiles Memorial Park
Named after Florida's 2 term Govenor Lawton Chiles, Lawton Chiles Memorial Park is a 19 acre recreational site located in North Western Boca Raton. The park is equipped with lighted basketball courts and athletic fields which are open later than the rest of the park. The park has ample parking and restrooms. Come out and enjoy a picnic at the park with a game of horse shoes or bocce ball. There is plenty of space to spend a relaxed time with friends and family.
Knowles Park
Knowles Park is located just north of Linton Blvd and east of northbound US 1 in Delray Beach. This small park consists of a boat ramp, fishing area, playground, shaded green areas, restrooms and picnic tables. Across the street is a convenient Walgreens for any last minute needs. The playground is better suited for school age children then for smaller tots. There is a large yellow spiral sculpture along US1 that helps identify the park location from the road. Ample parking is provided.
Delray Oaks Natural Area
Delray Oaks Natural Area on Congress Avenue in Delray Beach contains examples of native Floridian prairie and xeric hammock ecosystems. The 25-acre site also contains a small wetland and areas of mesic flat woods. The tree canopy includes many live oak trees and sabal palms, with an understory of wild coffee, beauty berry, and saw palmetto. Oak hammocks are rare in Florida and in Palm Beach County due to urban development. The oak hammock community only develops in areas where fires have not occurred for at least 30 years.
