Named for a Pembroke Pines City Commissioner, the William B. Armstrong Dream Park opened in 2001. The six-acre area features long, wandering walkways which encourage placid strolls among arbors of flowers. Platforms offer picturesque overlooks of water, waterfalls and natural foliage which is native to South Florida. The park is appropriate for all ages. Although there is no playground equipment, youngsters can find plenty of open space to run and play. Families can enjoy picnicking and visiting in the great Florida weather. Ducks and other birds frequent the pond waters and turtles sun on the banks to the delight of children of all ages. Seniors can enjoy the relaxing vistas and walkways.
In addition to the daily advantages of the park, there are also a variety of special events. A monthly jazz concert is free to all. Popular, local jazz bands play for the enjoyment of the attendees who bring their own blankets or chairs and listen for an evening of great music. Each year since 2003, a garden show sells native as well as exotic plants. Garden clubs and experts offer gardening advice and workshops. Area residents return often to replenish, replace and add to their yards and gardens. Art shows give local artists an opportunity to show and sell their works. Some children's programs have included local library presentations such as the "Storybook Lady". The park may be also be reserved for family events such as reunions, parties and weddings.
Open 8:00 am to dusk, this friendly park invites tourists as well as residents to enjoy a peaceful retreat amid the hustle and bustle of a busy world.
