Roger Dean Stadium
Located in the Abacoa community of Jupiter town in Florida, the Roger Dean Stadium is a $28 million baseball stadium that plays host to two teams competing in Major League Baseball. It was built in the year 1998 and has a capacity of nearly seven thousand people. Special concessions, parking facilities, permanent seating at two levels, and a luxury box for seating are some of the features available at this stadium.
The Roger Dean Stadium complex holds the distinction of being the only stadium in the United States that is the home ground of four different teams from Minor League Baseball, namely:
- The Jupiter Hammerheads
- The Palm Beach Cardinals
- The Gulf Coast Marlins
- The Gulf Coast Cardinals
While the first two teams ply their trade in the Advanced Baseball Florida State League at a Class A level, the latter are rookie-level teams playing in the Gulf Coast League. This stadium is also the only place in the state of Florida where you get to see two of the big names of Major League Baseball during the annual Spring training season- the St. Louis Cardinals and Miami Marlins. Although the main stadium is shared by the teams during their respective matches, each of them have the privilege of access to state-of-the-art facilities that include conditioning rooms, pitching mounds, outdoor batting cages, and respective practice fields.
September 2012 witnessed a special chapter being written in the stadium's history when it was chosen as host for the 2013 World Baseball Classic. South Africa, Israel, France, and Spain are some of the big names to have taken part in that event.
Situated within the Abacoa community of Florida, the Roger Dean Stadium complex stands on 110 acres of land. It can be found right on Donald Ross Road, around a quarter mile east of the Interstate 95 highway. If you are travelling on the same, take the exit at Donald Ross Road (marked as Exit 83) and travel one mile on the road up to Central Boulevard. Turn left at the light and follow Central until you reach Frederick Small. Turn left and you will find the complex on your left.
The Roger Dean Stadium can also be reached from Florida's Turnpike. Take Exit 116 at Jupiter-Indiantown Road, drive up to Interstate 95 South, and follow the same driving directions as mentioned previously.
