Science Art Cinema
Art and science enthusiasts will have a chance to experience the inaugural Science Art Cinema, a performance event series supported by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
The evening’s special program, Science Art Cinema #1: Lasers, will focus on lasers and their many uses, from medical technology, to holograms and light shows. The 90-minute experience inside the museum’s Theater and Planetarium will include a series of 20th century films about the early days of the laser introduced by San Francisco film archivist Stephen Parr, a short documentary featuring artist Matthew Schreiber, and an immersive laser sculpture and soundscape by Schreiber with live performance by six local guitarists conducted by Cody Boyce, including Autumn Casey of Snakehole, Rick Fantasies, Gavin Perry and Beatriz Montevaro of Holly Hunt, Julie Ghoulie of Crud and Frank “RatBastard” Falestra of Laundry Room Squelchers.
Guests will enjoy light bites, complimentary cocktails by Tito's Vodka and Perrier Sparkling Natural Water, and beer courtesy of Wynwood Brewing Company.
With the museum’s current location set to close its doors soon and the new museum’s $300 million, state-of-the-art-facility on course to open summer 2016 at Museum Park, this will be one of the last chances for locals to enjoy a multimedia experience inside the beloved 1966 Planetarium!
Tickets are limited. $15 in advance; $20 at the door.
