Military Appreciation Day
The Homestead Military Appreciation Day is an annual event in its 5th year. This is a free event that will take place on April 29th, 2017 from 3:00 pm- 8:00 pm at Losner Park. This is not only a great way to spend the day with your loved ones but also a great way to pay tribute to our Military personnel. Visitors will enjoy Food Trucks, Live Music, Military Displays, bounce houses, and much more!
This years event is going to be bigger and better. The military displays will include dozens of military vehicles and weaponry not often accessible to the public. Military ID holders will receive free vouchers to redeem for food at the event and $1,000.00 in cash prizes will be given away during the raffle drawing. Some other fun features in the days schedule will include a K-9 demostration by the Homestead Police Department, a flyover by of Blackhawk helicopters during the opening ceremonies, a children's area and dozens of food trucks. You can't miss the Military Branches Battle on the obstacle course. Watch, as teams battle it out for a colossal trophy sponsored by the South Dade News Leader and a grand prize of $1200 sponsored by Value Place! The course is designed and sponsored by BattleFrog. This event promises fun for people of all ages.
Students are also invited to take part in the Art and Essay Student Contest which offers cash prizes to the winners. The Essay contest is open to Middle School (6-8 grade) and Senior High School (9-12 grade) students. Participants are to write a 500-word-limit essay about what freedom and honoring service means. The Art Contest is also open to Elementary (K-2), Elementary (3-5 grade), Middle School (6-8 grade) and Senior High School (9-12 grade).
