7. John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park - in Key Largo, in Monroe County, Florida, is simply a wonderland filled with things to do. Take your kids to the playground, complete with climbing tower, before heading to the beach to swim. Engage in some land exploration hikes through the mangrove swamps, upland areas or hammocks, observing wildlife as you go. For an even more exciting adventures, rent a glass bottom boat and take them through the magnificent coral reefs that give the park its name. The older members of the family might like to head down to Cannon Beach and go snorkeling or scuba diving around the Spanish shipwreck that sunk in the crystal blue waters. Take the kids out to see what's being caught on the pier. Sometimes you can see sea turtles, sting ray, sharks, and schools of bait fish on the pier. Be sure to keep small kids in hand especially around fishermen casting their hooks. The municipal pool is also right there across from the beach so the little ones can take swim lessons and then enjoy the playground and beach afterwards. After some fun in the sand and sun, grab an ice cream or slice of pizza just across the street from the beach.
