If you and your family are looking for ultimate peace be sure to take a hike around Winding Waters in West Palm Beach. It is situated between the Turnpike and the Haverhill, south of Dyer park. It offers to go far away from the city noise and lets you feel the soul soothing melody of Florida nature!



Site Information:

This natural area has six topical Florida Ecosystems: Wet-Flatwoods,Mesic-Flatwoods,Depression Marsh,Hydric Hammock,Dome Swamp and Wet Prairie. Approximately a 550 acres area is now restored after about 3 years of the restoration project. Local vegetation was retained in five little islands inside the excavated region to give a rookery habitat, and a sandy/gravelly settling island was made for terns. To protect areas for wildlife a ditch was also excavated over the islands.

Plants: Plants which are transplanted on this site - Cabbage-Palm,Laurel Oak,Pond -Cypress,Red-bay and Red maple. Other plants which are observed around the site consist of Royal fern,netted pawpaw,slash pine, and buttonbush.



Wild Life:

Animals which are observed on Winding Waters site consists of Bald-Eagle,Lady Bird Beetle(Nine Spotted),Green Snake, Green Heron,Yellow Billed Cuckoo, Blackpoll warble, raccoon, and Anhinga. 

Public Use Facilities:

Public use facilities include a parking area, informational kiosks, an accessible nature trail and boardwalk leading to a covered observation platform, natural-surface hiking trail with shade shelters, a 3.4 mile canoe/kayak loop trail, and a canoe/kayak launch. There are no restroom facilities or drinking water on the natural area.

NOTE: The parking lot is located off Dyer Boulevard, 1/2 mile west of Haverhill Road.
