Annual Chinese Moon Festival at the Norton

The Norton’s annual celebration of the Chinese Moon Festival in honor of its world-class collection of Chinese art is set for noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2016. The festivities include a performance by members of Florida State University’s Chinese Music Ensemble. The Ensemble is led by Haiqiong Deng, an award-winning musician who has performed at previous  Norton Moon Festival celebrations. She returns with members of the Ensemble to present music related to the holiday and season, performing on a range of exotic Chinese instruments.

Moon Festival also includes a Chinese painting demonstration by painter Liu Nan, who is trained in both western and traditional Chinese techniques. Art activities for all ages, docent Spotlight tours of Chinese artworks, and a Curator’s Conversation by Laurie Barnes, Elizabeth B. McGraw Curator of Chinese Art, are also featured throughout the afternoon. Barnes will discuss seven-foot-tall, glazed, stoneware sculptures from the Ming dynasty the Museum recently acquired.

A reception featuring traditional Chinese mooncakes and tea completes the celebration.

The 11th Annual Moon Festival Celebration is made possible in part by the generous support of John and Heidi Niblack.
