All About Fall in South Florida
It might not be easy to believe from the weather outside, but the official beginning of Autumn 2015 is already here in South Florida. The biggest annual fall events in South Florida are right around the corner. Just because South Florida is in the tropics and misses autumn colors and apple-picking doesn’t mean that we can't get a taste of fall fun! We do have our own way of celebrating this season. If you are itching to be pickin' there are several U-pick farms that will have veggies and strawberries to choose from...just no apples. The entire family can celebrate fall with a pumpkin patch, costume contests, family photos, pet costume parades, cider donuts, as well as hayrides and campfires! Pretend you're up north by snapping some memorable pumpkin patch photos --though the flip flops and shorts may be a dead giveaway you're in South Florida.
Many events will feature a pumpkin patch, kids' area, a corn maze, safe trick-or-treating, hayrides, live bands, lots of arts and craft vendors, and other Fall and Halloween fun. Boogie down at a Halloween party, get creative with pumpkin decorating, get spooked at a not-so-scary haunted event, and so much more. Kids and parents will find plenty to do with costume contests, face painting, bounce houses/amusement rides or even a GROSS exhibit at the Museum of Discovery & Science in Fort Lauderdale. For those who are past the stage of frequent nightmares, perhaps try out some of the scarier events like Fright Nights at the South Florida Fairgrounds (for kids over 12) or Shriek Week at the Sugar Sand Park in Boca Raton. Spooky tours on the nature trail will be held at several local parks or nature centers and there are many events for kids at malls, churches, and recreation centers.
